eSIM for Canada

Data for Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver and the Rockies, installed before you fly. Canada is on the Americas plan, so a trip that crosses into the United States or flies on to Mexico stays on one eSIM.

Good to know

What's included, when it starts, and how to get connected.

Included countries
The Canada plan covers Canada only.
Local networks
In Canada your eSIM connects to Bell, TELUS, and SaskTel — 4G/5G where the network offers it.
When validity starts
Your package starts when your phone first connects to a network at the destination — not when you install it. Crossing a border does not restart it.
Installation and activation
Install the eSIM while you still have internet — at home or on Wi-Fi. Installation does not start validity. If you already have a onesim eSIM installed, a new package is added to it — no second installation. Setup guide
Calls and texts
onesim is data-only. Calls and messages work over data in apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime; your usual SIM keeps your number.
Support and refunds
Message the onesim support team from the app or the website. If a package cannot be installed or used, the refund policy explains what applies. Refund policy
Travel notes

What surprises visitors most.

Distances

Toronto to Vancouver is a five-hour flight, not a drive.

Canada is the second-largest country on earth and its cities are strung along the southern edge of it. Fly between regions (Air Canada, WestJet, Porter) and drive within them: the Rockies from Calgary, the Cabot Trail from Halifax, Québec from Montréal. VIA Rail’s Toronto–Montréal corridor is the one useful train.

Money

Tax is added at the till, and tipping is expected.

Sales tax is added on top of the price on the label — 5% federal GST plus a provincial tax, 13% all-in in Ontario, 15% in the Atlantic provinces, 5% only in Alberta. Restaurants expect a 15–20% tip and the card terminal will suggest more. Cards and phone wallets work everywhere; cash is rarely needed.

Driving

The national parks charge admission, and the animals are on the road.

Banff, Jasper and the other national parks charge a daily or annual pass per vehicle, bought at the gate or online. Wildlife on the road is real — elk and deer at dusk in the mountains, moose in the east — so drive slower than the limit at dawn and dusk. Winter tyres are mandatory in Québec from December to March and sensible everywhere else with snow.

When to come

Summer is short and booked out; winter is long and the point of the west.

June to September is the season for the Rockies, the lakes and the east coast, and the hotels in Banff and Jasper fill months ahead. Autumn colour in Québec and Ontario peaks in early October. Skiing runs from December to April in Whistler and the Rockies. Winter in the cities is serious: −20°C in Montréal and Winnipeg is normal.

Small things

Québec speaks French first.

Signs, menus and service in Québec are in French, and a bonjour before the English is appreciated. Everywhere else is English. Tap water is excellent across the country, and the drinking age is 18 in Québec, Alberta and Manitoba and 19 in the rest.

Coverage

Strong where people live, and a long way between them.

Canada is on the Americas plan, so the same eSIM works in Toronto, on the Sea-to-Sky highway, in Québec City and at Lake Louise without anything to change. Coverage follows the local networks: strong in the cities and the corridor between Windsor and Québec, good on the Trans-Canada and in the mountain towns, and absent across the long stretches of the north and between the prairie towns, where no network reaches on any SIM.

The United States is on the same package. A drive from Vancouver to Seattle, Toronto to New York or Montréal to Vermont carries on with the same allowance, and the phone picks up an American partner network a few minutes after the border.

Canada questions.

Answers about data, coverage and setup for Canada.

In the towns, at the lakes and around the visitor centres, yes. On the Icefields Parkway between Lake Louise and Jasper there are long stretches with no signal on any network, and the same is true on most hiking trails. Download offline maps and your park pass before you set off, and expect the phone to reconnect at the next town.
