eSIM for Japan
Prepaid mobile data that works the moment you land in Tokyo, Osaka or anywhere else in Japan — no counter, no plastic SIM. Install it at home; it switches on when you land.

Good to know
What's included, when it starts, and how to get connected.
- Included countries
- The Japan plan covers Japan only.
- Local networks
- In Japan your eSIM connects to au — 4G/5G where the network offers it.
- When validity starts
- Your package starts when your phone first connects to a network at the destination — not when you install it. Crossing a border does not restart it.
- Installation and activation
- Install the eSIM while you still have internet — at home or on Wi-Fi. Installation does not start validity. If you already have a onesim eSIM installed, a new package is added to it — no second installation. Setup guide
- Calls and texts
- onesim is data-only. Calls and messages work over data in apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime; your usual SIM keeps your number.
- Support and refunds
- Message the onesim support team from the app or the website. If a package cannot be installed or used, the refund policy explains what applies. Refund policy
Your first hour in Japan.
Most trips start at Narita or Haneda for Tokyo, or Kansai for Osaka and Kyoto. The steps are the same everywhere; the trains are not.

- 1
Before you leave home
Install the onesim eSIM over Wi-Fi and register on Visit Japan Web to pre-fill immigration and customs — you get a QR code to scan on arrival. If you plan to use a Suica card, check the current options for visitors before you fly.

Immigration and customs
Scan your Visit Japan Web QR codes at the kiosks. Allow 30–60 minutes at peak times at Narita and Haneda. Collect your bag, then find the train or bus counters in the arrivals hall.
- 3
Turn on your data
Open Settings → Mobile data, select the onesim line for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it. Your Japan plan starts now. Keep your home SIM on for calls but turn its data roaming off to avoid surprise charges.

Into the city
From Narita: the Narita Express to Tokyo Station (about 60 minutes) or the Keisei Skyliner to Ueno (about 45). From Haneda: the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho or the Keikyu Line to Shinagawa (15–20 minutes). From Kansai: the Haruka to Kyoto or the Nankai to Osaka Namba. Airport limousine buses reach major hotels directly if you have heavy luggage.
Staying connected beyond Tokyo.
Coverage follows the local networks wherever they reach: cities, Shinkansen routes and most rural areas. Remote mountain and island areas can have weaker signal on any carrier, so download maps for a hike before you set off.
Free Wi-Fi is common in stations, convenience stores and hotels, but it usually needs a sign-up. With mobile data you skip that, and tethering to a laptop works like at home.

No. onesim is installed before you travel, with nothing to register when you land. Turn on the onesim line for mobile data and you are connected.
Installing the eSIM does not start the clock. Your package starts the first time the eSIM connects to a network in a country it covers, even while mobile data is off. Install at home over Wi-Fi and keep the onesim line switched off until you arrive; if your home country is covered too, the package would start the moment the line connects there.
Yes. Your account has one onesim eSIM, and you refill it with any regional package from anywhere in the world — from the website or the app. The new package is added to the eSIM already on your phone; there is nothing to install again.
