eSIM for Albania

Data for Tirana, the Riviera and the mountains, installed before you arrive. Albania is outside the EU roaming zone, so a package here is usually the difference between using your phone and rationing it.

Good to know

What's included, when it starts, and how to get connected.

Included countries
The Albania plan covers Albania only.
Local networks
In Albania your eSIM connects to One and Vodafone — 4G/5G where the network offers it.
When validity starts
Your package starts when your phone first connects to a network at the destination — not when you install it. Crossing a border does not restart it.
Installation and activation
Install the eSIM while you still have internet — at home or on Wi-Fi. Installation does not start validity. If you already have a onesim eSIM installed, a new package is added to it — no second installation. Setup guide
Calls and texts
onesim is data-only. Calls and messages work over data in apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime; your usual SIM keeps your number.
Support and refunds
Message the onesim support team from the app or the website. If a package cannot be installed or used, the refund policy explains what applies. Refund policy
Route idea · the Albanian Riviera by road

Vlorë to Ksamil, in four days.

About 120 kilometres of coast road, a mountain pass in the middle, and no good reason to do it in a day. The line below is an illustration, not a map.

The Ionian coast far below the Llogara pass viewpoint1

Vlorë and the Llogara pass · Day 1

A working city with a long seafront, then the climb over Llogara to just above a thousand metres with the Ionian appearing below you on the descent. A tunnel now cuts under the pass — take the old road over the top unless the weather is bad.

The coast road above Dhërmi on the Albanian Riviera2

Dhërmi and Himarë · Days 2–3

Dhërmi has the long pebble beach; Drymades, ten minutes north, has the pines coming down to the water. Gjipe, at the mouth of a canyon, is worth the rough track and the walk down. Sleep in Himarë, which has a harbour and a castle village above it.

Turquoise water and the islets off Ksamil3

Sarandë, Butrint and Ksamil · Day 4

Sarandë faces Corfu across the strait and has the best seafood on the route. Butrint, 18 km south, is an entire Greek and Roman city in a lagoon — go before ten. Ksamil is the famous one: white sand, turquoise water, and completely full in August.

How the plan fits this route

One package covers the whole coast, and the coast is exactly where you need it: the beach tracks have no signage, the ferry and bus timetables live online, and the mountain sections between towns are the places coverage thins out. Download the route offline before you leave Vlorë and the drive has no surprises left in it.

Travel notes

Practical things, honestly.

Phone

Albania is not inside the EU roaming zone yet.

A declaration between EU and Western Balkan operators caps roaming data at €14 a gigabyte in 2026, falling to €9 in 2028 — a cap, not free roaming. In June 2026 the Council authorised talks on extending "roam like at home" to the region, with Albania named as one of the likely first two. Until that is in force, check your own tariff rather than assuming.

Money

Pay in lek, not euros.

Euros are accepted in tourist areas at a rate that always favours the person accepting them. ATMs charge a per-withdrawal fee, so take out more at a time. Cards work in hotels and larger restaurants; beach bars and guesthouses are cash.

Driving

The SH8 is paved, and it is still a mountain road.

Hairpins, no barrier in places, and drivers who overtake with more optimism than you are used to. Do not drive it at night for the first time. Fuel is frequent on the flat and scarce on the pass — fill up in Vlorë and again in Himarë.

When to come

August is the mistake.

The diaspora comes home, Albanians take their holidays, and prices roughly double while the beaches fill. June and September are the same weather with half the people, and the sea is warmest in September.

Coverage follows the local networks wherever they reach — cities, transport corridors and most rural areas. Remote mountain and island areas can have weaker signal on any carrier.
