eSIM for Indonesia

Data for Bali, Jakarta, Yogyakarta and the islands between, installed before you fly. Indonesia is on the Asia plan, so the same eSIM covers a stopover in Singapore or a week in Thailand on the way.

Good to know

What's included, when it starts, and how to get connected.

Included countries
The Indonesia plan covers Indonesia only.
Local networks
In Indonesia your eSIM connects to Indosat and 3 — 4G/5G where the network offers it.
When validity starts
Your package starts when your phone first connects to a network at the destination — not when you install it. Crossing a border does not restart it.
Installation and activation
Install the eSIM while you still have internet — at home or on Wi-Fi. Installation does not start validity. If you already have a onesim eSIM installed, a new package is added to it — no second installation. Setup guide
Calls and texts
onesim is data-only. Calls and messages work over data in apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime; your usual SIM keeps your number.
Support and refunds
Message the onesim support team from the app or the website. If a package cannot be installed or used, the refund policy explains what applies. Refund policy
Arrival guide

Your first hour in Bali.

Ngurah Rai is a small airport for the number of people who land at it, and the SIM counters in arrivals exist because most visitors turn up without data. You will walk past them.

  1. 1

    Before you leave home

Most visitors need a visa on arrival, which can be bought online in advance as an e-VOA to skip one queue; Bali also charges a separate tourist levy, payable online before you fly. Install your onesim eSIM over Wi-Fi and leave the line switched off.

  2. 2

    Turn on your data

After landing, open Settings → Mobile Data, select the onesim line for mobile data and turn data roaming on for that line only. Keep your home SIM in the phone with its roaming off; your own number stays reachable for bank and booking codes.

  3. 3

    Immigration and customs

Fill in the electronic customs declaration online before you land and keep the QR code on the phone. Immigration is the slow part at peak hours — the e-VOA lane moves faster than the cash counter.

  4. 4

    Into the resort

Order a Grab or Gojek from the app and walk to the marked pick-up area; the price is fixed in the app and far lower than the touts outside. A hotel transfer is the calmer option after a long flight. Kuta and Seminyak are twenty minutes; Ubud is an hour or more in traffic.

Travel notes

What surprises visitors most.

Getting around

Everyone rents a scooter; not everyone should.

Bali’s roads are the single biggest risk of the trip. If you ride, you need an international driving permit with a motorcycle category, a helmet and travel insurance that actually covers it — most policies exclude riding without a licence. A car with a driver for a day costs less than a hospital visit and knows where the rice terraces are.

Money

Rupiah in large numbers, and a card in most of the places you will eat.

A hundred thousand rupiah is a few euros, so the notes look alarming. Cards are accepted in hotels, larger restaurants and shops; warungs, drivers and markets are cash. Use ATMs attached to banks rather than standalone machines, and refuse the machine’s own conversion rate.

When to come

Dry season is April to October, and July and August are the crowd.

The dry months are the best for beaches and volcano hikes; the wet season, November to March, brings short heavy downpours rather than washed-out days, and the island is green and cheaper. Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence in March, closes the airport and empties the streets for 24 hours — plan around it.

Small things

A sarong at the temple, and shoes at the door.

Temples lend or rent sarongs at the entrance and expect covered shoulders. Shoes come off in homes and many guesthouses. The small offerings on the pavement are stepped around, not over.

Reading about Indonesia

Indonesia questions.

Answers about data, coverage and setup for Indonesia.

Yes. Indonesia’s IMEI registration rule applies to phones using an Indonesian SIM for more than a short visit; a travel eSIM connects through the local network as a roaming device, which is treated differently, and this is how onesim works everywhere. Install before you fly, switch the line on when you land, and the phone connects the way it would in any other country.
