eSIM for Sweden

Data for Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and the long road north, installed before you fly. Sweden is on the Europe plan, so the same eSIM crosses the bridge to Copenhagen and carries on into Norway and Finland. Cinnamon buns sold separately.

Good to know

What's included, when it starts, and how to get connected.

Included countries
The Sweden plan covers Sweden only.
Local networks
In Sweden your eSIM connects to Telia, Telenor, and Tre — 4G/5G where the network offers it.
When validity starts
Your package starts when your phone first connects to a network at the destination — not when you install it. Crossing a border does not restart it.
Installation and activation
Install the eSIM while you still have internet — at home or on Wi-Fi. Installation does not start validity. If you already have a onesim eSIM installed, a new package is added to it — no second installation. Setup guide
Calls and texts
onesim is data-only. Calls and messages work over data in apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime; your usual SIM keeps your number.
Support and refunds
Message the onesim support team from the app or the website. If a package cannot be installed or used, the refund policy explains what applies. Refund policy
Travel notes

Five things Sweden does its own way.

Money

Sweden nearly gave up cash, then passed a law to save it.

Only 5 per cent of Swedes paid cash for their last purchase in a shop in 2025, says the Riksbank, and one small business in three refuses it. Since 1 July 2026 grocery shops and pharmacies must accept cash at a staffed till, which tells you how far it had gone. Bring a card or phone wallet; Swish, the app everyone pays with, needs a Swedish personal number and bank account.

Getting around

The airport express costs more than the commuter train — unless there are three of you.

Arlanda Express reaches Stockholm Central in 18 minutes for SEK 340 one way (2026). The SL commuter train from Arlanda C takes about 38 minutes and costs an SL ticket (SEK 43) plus a SEK 157 station fee — about SEK 200. Each extra traveller on the Express costs only SEK 120, though, so for three adults it is the cheaper ride. In town, SL’s gates and buses take a contactless card or phone.

The meme

TikTok discovered Swedish sweets in 2024. Sweden keeps them for Saturdays.

A TikTok of a visit to BonBon, a Swedish sweet shop in New York, went viral in early 2024, and a year-long shortage of Swedish pick-and-mix followed. At home it is lördagsgodis — Saturday sweets — a habit health authorities began pushing in 1959 to save children’s teeth. Almost every supermarket has the wall, sold by weight. Fika, coffee with something sweet, is exempt: at work it is often scheduled, sometimes twice a day.

Myth

The film Midsommar was shot in Hungary. The real one is mostly herring.

Ari Aster’s 2019 horror film was made near Budapest, largely to save money. The real Midsummer Eve falls on the Friday between 19 and 25 June: pickled herring, new potatoes, strawberries, a maypole and Små grodorna, a dance about frogs having no ears or tails. Systembolaget, the state off-licence, is closed that day, all day on Sundays and after 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Plan accordingly.

Only here

You may camp on almost anyone’s land. For a night or two, out of sight.

Allemansrätten, the right of public access, lets anyone walk, pick berries and mushrooms and pitch a tent in the countryside, private land included. The rules are few: stay out of sight and earshot of homes, keep off crops, one or two nights in a place, leave no trace. Cars and campervans are not covered. Check the fire risk in the Brandrisk Ute app before lighting anything.

Coverage

One package from Malmö to Kiruna, and over the bridge.

Sweden is on the Europe plan, so the same eSIM works in Stockholm, on the train to Gothenburg, at a lake cottage in Småland and on the long train north without anything to change. Coverage follows the local networks: strong in the cities and along the main roads and railways, thinner in the forests of the interior and patchy on the fells of Lapland, where a day’s hike can run out of signal on any SIM.

Denmark, Norway and Finland are on the same plan, so the train over the Øresund Bridge to Copenhagen, the line from Kiruna to Narvik or a weekend in Helsinki keeps the same package and allowance. With an EU SIM you already roam here at home prices, within fair use, Norway included. The package is for visitors from outside the EU, and for anyone whose home allowance will not last the trip.

Sweden questions.

Answers about data, coverage and setup for Sweden.

In Sweden itself, usually not: roam-like-at-home applies, within your plan’s fair-use allowance, and it extends to Norway and Iceland. The package earns its keep for visitors from outside the EU — the UK, Switzerland, the Balkans, Türkiye, the US — and for European SIMs whose allowance will not survive two weeks of maps, train tickets and photos.
