Checking if your phone is unlocked
What a carrier lock is, how to check, and who can remove it.
What a carrier lock is
Phones sold on a contract are often locked so they only work with that carrier’s SIM or eSIM. A locked phone will refuse to activate a onesim profile even if the model supports eSIM.
On iPhone
Open Settings › General › About and look for “Carrier Lock”. “No SIM restrictions” means unlocked. If it names a carrier, the phone is locked to them.
On Android
There is no single reliable setting across manufacturers. The dependable check is to ask your carrier, or to try a SIM from another network.
Getting it unlocked
Only the carrier that sold the phone can unlock it. Most do so on request once the contract terms are met; some charge a fee. onesim cannot unlock a phone.
